Press the Pause button
Rumi said, ‘A little while alone in your room will prove more valuable than anything else that could ever be given to you.’
Press the Pause button on your life. Realise that there are few things so urgent that they can’t wait a minute. We often go through the day without any pause at all.
The philosopher Bertrand Russell identified the phenomenon 80 years ago in his essay ’In Praise of Idleness.’ Advocating a four-hour day, he argued that we were failing to exploit the liberating power of technology due to a Victorian mindset that decreed that unless someone is labouring, they are somehow in sin. “Modern methods of production have given us the possibility of ease and security for all; we have chosen, instead, to have overwork for some and starvation for others.”
I often feel (particularly when I am doing Zero Balancing) that I am a Still Point at the centre of a hurricane. To offer that still point I must stay centred and grounded. What I have found particularly useful recently is PAUSING and TAKING A BREATH before I move on to the next activity or I am distracted.
Let Pause before Distraction become your new mantra.
